Twelve games, zero lost: Mercadal and Mamat blitz into FIP Bronze Yogyakarta main draw

The Spanish-Indonesian pairing of Adria Mercadal and Raid Rahmat Laleno Mamat capped Day 2 with a 6–0, 6–0 qualifying final after earlier upsetting the No. 2 seeds.

If any single pair turned heads at the FIP Bronze Yogyakarta 2026 on Thursday, it was Adria Mercadal and Raid Rahmat Laleno Mamat. The Spanish-Indonesian combination needed just two matches on Day 2 to confirm a place in the main draw — and they did so without conceding a single set, finishing their qualifying campaign with a scoreline that left no room for interpretation.

Their Round of 16 match on West A pitted them against the No. 2 seeds, Great Britain's Luke Power and Indra Wahyu Anshari. The seeded pair came in with the second-most ranking points in the qualifying bracket. They left it without a set: Mercadal and Mamat won 6–3, 6–2 in a result that visibly shifted the temperature of the day.

Q3 — the qualifying final, with a main-draw spot on the line — followed on Dome B against the alternate pairing Dyvac Akbar and Reno Sultan. Mercadal and Mamat won it 6–0, 6–0. Twelve games to nil in the match that decided their tournament; thirty games to five across the two matches combined.

Mercadal, a Spanish player, arrived in Yogyakarta as part of the small but visible international contingent in the qualifying draw. His pairing with Mamat is one of the cross-national combinations the FIP Bronze format makes possible — and on Thursday, it became the first men's qualifier confirmed for Friday's main-draw Round of 32. Whatever the seeded pairs in the main draw were planning for the start of the weekend, they now have a problem to think about.
